Eligibility Criteria :
Ph.D. in Anthropology and Tribal Studies
Master Degree in Anthropology / Sociology / Folklore / Tribal Studies / Law / Human Rights / Social Work / Tribal Law and Governance / English / Comparative Literature / Indigenous Culture Studies / Media Studies / History and Archaeology / Rural Development / Tribal Development / Gender Studies / Women Studies / Semiotics / Philosophy / Religion Studies / Development Studies / Cultural Studies / Tribal Language / Performance Studies - with 55% marks or equivalent grade. Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PWD applicants.
Qualified UGC-NET in the discipline of : Anthropology / Archaeology / Comparative Literature / English / Folk Literature / History / Human Rights and Duties / Indian Culture / Law / Mass Communication and Journalism / Museology and Conservation / Philosophy / Public Administration / Social Work / Sociology / Tribal and Regional Language-Literature / Women Studies / Performing Art.
There is no age bar for pursuing the programme.
Process of Admission :
Candidates who fulfill the above mentioned eligibility conditions shall fill the Ph.D. admission application form.
Such applicants will be called for interview to discuss their research interest through presentation (preferably PowerPoint) before a duly constituted committee. Apart from research interest area, the interview also gauges the - (a) competence of candidate for proposed research, (b) suitability of research work to be undertaken at University, and (c) whether the proposed area of research can contribute to addition of new knowledge ?
Merit List shall be prepared in the following manner (Total - 100 marks) :
Fixed weightage for NET (with JRF) : 70 marks
Fixed weightage for NET (without JRF) : 50 marks
Interview : 30 marks
Number of Seats :
The number of candidates to be admitted in Ph.D. programme is decided by the Department on a 'year to year basis' depending on manageable number of vacant seats available with eligible supervisor/s of the Department.
The concurrent reservation rules as mandated by the Government of India / University Grants Commission (UGC) / Central University of Jharkhand, shall be applied accordingly.

Fellowship / Stipend :
Admitted candidates who have UGC-JRF / National Fellowship for OBC / SC / ST / Persons with Disabilities / ICMR or any other equivalent fellowship are eligible for receiving Rs. 31,000/- per month (as fellowship) + Rs. 10,000 (annual contingency) + House Rent Allowance (as per norms) for first two years. Consequent upon satisfactory progress, it is upgraded as per the norms of funding agency.
All others admitted students shall receive : Rs. 8000/- per month (as University Fellowship) + Annual Contingency.
